Writing and drumming.

Well anyone who has read this blog before knows that I have a ongoing battle with writing, or more specificly Oscar writing. We decided we would lay off for a while and just do lots of colouring, drawing and dot to dots but then yesterday I discovered this.

Electronic handwriting practice. Oscar is a happy boy. The little screen has dots that appear and show you how to from the letter and a voice talks you through it then you trace over the line, brilliant! It also teaches drawing basic shapes and simple pictures. As soon as he had eaten his breakfast Oscar was playing with it and when I asked if he could come and paint some Birthday pictures for his Nan and Uncle he asked if he could practice the letters he would need to write first. Well what a result, if he keeps it up it will be £15 very well spent.

After he had practiced writing his letters he then  made some pictures for his Nan and Uncle. My mum has a hand print picture from Oscar every year for her birthday and she has kept them all. We always make an extra one for our kitchen and date it and the previous years picture is put away as a keepsake. Here are this years stripy masterpieces.

Then after lunch we went round to a friends house and Oscar has his first drumming lesson with his friend Remmy and I got to relax and have a chat with Remmys' mum, my friend Karen.
We both had a really nice afternoon, I wasn't sure how Oscar would take to the drums as he can find loud noise a bit overwhelming but he had a brilliant time. When we left I asked him on a scale of 1-10 how good it was and he said 20. He was also quick to inform me that Remmy said he could go once a week which suits me as I had a really lovely time too. So thank you Karen and Remmy x

Home Ed Group

Today we went to our home ed group, we haven't been for a couple of weeks and we were both really pleased to catch up with our friends.
Today the children started a project about the Solar System.  The children learnt about the sun and gravity. They coloured in a picture of the solar system and have started to make their own book about the solar system Oscar loved it.

Then it was off to the park for a picnic and some play time.

And of course an ice cream.

Maths, spelling, cooking, music, park and friends.

As soon as Oscar had finished his breakfast a gotten dressed this morning he asked if he could play his Learning Ladder game so of course I said yes.
Today he did maths and literacy he learnt how to use the greater than and less than (< >) symbols and played some spelling games.

The we made lunch together.

This is his 'no I didn't pinch any cheese when you weren't looking mum' face.

After lunch I gave Oscar another recorder lesson He is taking it very seriously and remembered everything he learnt last week.

Unfortunately Oscars swimming lessons have been cancelled until September due to problems with the pool so today we went and met his fiends that he usually goes swimming with at the park.

Monday Monday

Today started with some basic maths, Oscar hasn't done much in the way of maths recently but he did a good job.

Then it was more maths but this time on the computer. Oscar started a new game today.

He loved it and did really well. He is far better at maths than he thinks he is.

After lunch Oscar asked if we could make this Eerie Eyeball.

So we did and Oscar had lots of fun wandering round the house and garden looking at thing through his new eye.

Then he read a book about eyes.

Then we went to his Taekwondo lesson. On the way there Oscar practiced his times tables and on the way home we counted 102 England flags. It's only a 15 minute walk so that's alot of flags, OK so there were a couple of strings of bunting and each flag on them counted as one but still that's more than I expected when he suggested we count them.

A pretty productive day really.

Oscar has been up to various things this week including.....

lots of dot to dots and colouring,

this science workbook

and practicing the recorder after I gave him his first lesson.

There has also been a swimming lesson, a trip to the park, taekwondo lessons and surprise surprise, lots of computing.

Search Museum

It was back on the ferry today to go to SEARCH museum again. Oscar really likes it there as it's all very hands on. Here are some pictures of some of the things Oscar got to see and do.

Dressed as a bug collecting pollen.

Then dressed as a badger to go through  a 'sett' and collect pictures of different things a badger would eat.

Playing a matching game.

Reading some animal related rhymes.

Getting a better look at a bat.
And a dragonflies wing.

There were lots of skeletons which was great as Oscar really likes looking at them, he was particularly interested in this cat, maybe because we have two cats at home.
He asked if he can have a human skeleton for his bedroom.

He was fascinated by this coral.

The many sets of shark teeth were the cause of great interest and many questions.

And the size and weight of this elephants tooth bought about a gasp of surprise then 'imagine if an elephant got toothache'.

Putting on a show in the puppet theatre.

Following a recipe to make bug soup.

Then finally it was story time, unfortunately Oscar didn't like the story.
