Friday

On Friday Oscar finished his project book, then we had a look at his magnets and painted them and stuck the magnets on. They are now adorning the radiator in Oscar's room.

Then we watched Finding Nemo again and Oscar really enjoyed talking about all the things he had learnt about from doing the project.

And finally we found this great book and CD in a charity shop.
Obviously we had to have it and we read it Friday afternoon then finally Oscar enjoyed listening to the CD whilst playing with his toys.

After all that it was off to Taekwondo for a testing. Oscar can't wait to receive his new belt at his presentation on Monday.

Home Ed group and making magnets.

Yesterday we went to our Home Ed group at the library. We learnt all about Chinese New Year, Oscar was really pleased that he was born in the year of the monkey.  After learning all about how the different animals were chosen the children all got to make their own Chinese Dragon.

That's his dragon face.

Today Oscar did some more of his project, he seems to be really enjoying this and has learnt lots of new things.

Then we made some fish fridge magnets.

They should have set by tomorrow, so we will be able to paint them and add the magnets.

Slime

Oscar started the day with some more sums, then a bit of reading. At the moment we are concentrating on Oscar reading fluidly taking note of punctuation.
Then we did some more of his project. Today he learnt about The Great Barrier Reef.

He also learnt how clown fish cover themselves in slime and keep brushing against an anemone so that they are no longer affected by it's sting and are able to live inside and be safe from predators.
So this afternoon we made some slime.

He enjoyed trying to convince his dad he was sneezing then showing him the big clear/ gold coloured slime in his hands. He is truly delighful.

All better and back to 'school'.

Oscar is all better now so it was back to 'school' today.
First he did some mental arithmetic, today he was adding 3 numbers so I was impressed when he got 9 out of 10.

Then he did some sums using place value.
He got all of these right. I'm really pleased with how well he's doing and he really enjoys maths.

Then we started our first ever project. It's called The Clownfish Adventure and is based on the film Finding Nemo. I bought a project pack from an online company that make a huge selection of them for home educators. They seem pretty good. Today Oscar learnt all about Clownfish, Tang's and anemone's and the oceans where they live.

He learn't some new words and their meanings using the vocabulary words he put at the front of his book.

Then he did some of the activities in the project pack like labeling the oceans on a map.
He had alot of fun reading, coulouring, and sticking.

After lunch he went on the computer and played some fishy games on the Finding Nemo website and made his own Nemo picture with their 'create a scene game'. He printed his finished picture and stuck it in his project book.

Then after all that he went to his friends house to play for an hour while I got to do some much needed housework. I am quickly realising that when you HE you have to let your standards of tidiness go a bit. I was amazed how much I managed to get done without my 'assistant'.

Party

Oscar was feeling better by the weekend so got to enjoy his Brithday party.
The party was at the aquarium, Oscar and his friends were given a guided tour where they found out about all the different fish.

Nemo and his friends were popular.

Then they went to the party room for some food
and some cake.

Then they got some hands on time with a starfish and a some crabs.

Then finally Oscar got to feed the sharks and stingrays.
Unfortunately I didn't get any good pics of that.

Oscar had a really great time and I think his friends did too.

Not very well but now 5 years old.

We haven't been up to much this week as Oscar hasn't been very well, so he has spent the last couple of days curled up on the sofa under a blanket. This is a real shame as it was his Birthday yesterday. He assured us he was up to opening a few presents though.

You know it's got to be good when it comes in a box this big.

We played this today and he thought it was great.

There were lots of cars,

and books,

and inetresting things to make and do.
I just hope he's feeling better for his party on Saturday.
