Snow, Santa and Wonderland.

Today was yet another busy day. Oscar was really excited when he woke up to see that it had snowed. We went to visit Santa this morning, then we went to the park to play in the snow and get some lunch in the cafe. Then we got a call from one of our home ed friends to say they had a couple of spare tickets for Alice in Wonderland at the Theatre Royal, we were nearby so went and met them. Oscar loved the show, then as soon as we were done there we raced off to his last Taekwondo lesson of the year. A very cold and snowy day. Oscar loved every minuite of it.

He is starting to get a bit suspicious about the whole Santa thing. Sleigh weight V gravity V time and distance?

Keydell Nurseries

This week we haven't tried to do much in the way of formal education, Oscar is so excited about Christmas we have decided to just go with it and let him have fun and hopefully we can slip in a bit of education along the way. So today we went to Keydell Nurseries with my mum and dad (we are also taking advatage of most places still being fairly quiet as kids at school don't break up till Friday). Keydell have a winter wonderland and a big Christmas shop so Oscar had a great time. He also liked meeting the donkeys they had outside. His favourite thing was the Countdown Till Christmas clock and he was a little dissapointed I wouldn't buy him one for his room.

Home school group.

On Wednesday we went to our home ed group at the library. We are both very grateful for this group. It has given Oscar a chance to make new friends and provides him with valuable social opportunities. Ohhh...and hopefully he is learning a few things there too. I have also made new friends, something that has been really important to me. When we started home schooling (just a few weeks ago) we didn't know any other home educators so it has been great to get out and see other people doing the same thing as us and to see the older home educated children who are all perfectly normal, lovely, bright, intelligent, articualte individuals. The group itself only started in the summer of this year but has grown very rapidly with all the members becoming involved with ideas of what to do in the future.

This week we started with a Horrible Histories Christmas quiz followed by the story, Christmas in the Big Woods. Then the children heard a little about the history of Christmas crackers before making some themselves. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of Oscars' as he insisted on pulling then with his Dad as soon as he got home so he could show his Dad what he had put inside them. But I can assure you they were marvelous, very spangly and complete with bad joke.

Afterwards we all went to the park, it was a bit cold to hang around outside long so the children had a quick play, the grown ups had a gossip then we all headed to the lovely park cafe for some lunch.
After all that Oscar had a Taekwondo lesson before returning home happy and tired.

Christmas Cards.

Today we have had a quiet day at home making Christmas cards.

He made these cards all by himself on the computer,  I had told him he could play on the computer for half an hour and then he gave me these. He has never done this before so I was very impressed and he was very proud of his special cards. One each for Mum, Dad, Santa and Rudolph.

Science museum.

On Thursday we went to Intech science museum with my mum and dad. We all had a great time and Oscar loved it. He particularly enjoyed using the crane to knock down towers. It's a great place and we will definitely be going back.

Busy week.

Well now I have worked out how to use the new camera properly here are some photos from the last week.

Fun in the woods with his friend Hannah.

Wednesday, 9 December 2009

Today was a very busy day. We went to our Home school group at the library where Oscar made a great snow picture and a lovely snowflake tree decoration. He also really enjoyed a game of pin the nose on the snowman. It was lovely to see the older children helping the younger ones and I think they all benefit form this. Afterwards we all went to the park where we had lunch and the children got to let off steam in the adventure playground.

Oscar really enjoys his home school group and we are both starting to make some great new friends.

After all that Oscar had a Birthday party to go to where he met up with some of his friends from the nursery he went to.
I am shattered but Oscar bounced off to bed talking non stop about his great day.

We are off to inetch science museum tomorrow with Nanny & Grandad so another busy day.

Why do some people think Home ed kids spend all day at the kitchen table?

Christmas fun

Well we have had a great weekend with a trip to the woods with one of Oscars' friends where they both enjoyed stomping around in the mud.

Today was a busy day, we went to a friends house (another homeschooler) to make Christmas decorations, Oscar loves glitter and really enjoyed painting glitter onto everything he could find.

This afternoon Oscar had his Taekwondo presentation as he has gained a new belt after testing on Friday. His (very proud) Grandad came to watch and Oscar was really very proud of his new belt (yellow with orange stripe).
